Sporting Goa Through Joyner Lourenco’s Eyes

Sporting Clube de Goa is more than just a football team—it’s a family. For club legend Joyner Lourenco, playing for Sporting was an honor, shaping both his career and personal identity. In an exclusive interview, he reflects on his journey, the influence of the late Sir Peter Vaz, and the club’s future under new leadership.

“Sporting isn’t just a club for me—it’s home,” Joyner shares. “It has always stood for promoting Goan players, and that’s what drew me to it.” Starting with Goa Velha Sports Club, he made a pivotal move to Sporting, inspired by its commitment to local talent.

Central to the club’s success was Sir Peter Vaz, whose vision built Sporting Clube de Goa from the ground up. “He was the heart and soul of this club,” Joyner says. “His passion and leadership made all the difference. Even today, his presence is felt in everything we do.”

Sir Peter’s encouragement extended beyond management—he personally motivated players, often stepping in at halftime to lift spirits during tough matches. “He wanted us to play freely, to give our best,” Joyner recalls. “His impact was recognized far beyond Goa.”

Looking ahead, Joyner sees a bright future with Nathan Vaz carrying forward his father’s legacy. “Nathan shares the same vision. He’s passionate about taking this club to the highest level,” he affirms.

As Sporting Clube de Goa continues its journey, its foundation remains strong—built on pride, unity, and the enduring influence of those who shaped it.
