Under the leadership of CEO Welvin Menezes, Sporting Clube de Goa is embracing technology to enhance player performance, scouting and overall club development.
Welvin says, “We at Sporting Clube de Goa have embraced technology in a small way to begin with but are gradually incorporating more technology to elevate every aspect of the game.”
At Sporting Clube de Goa, technology is playing an essential role in monitoring player performance. GPS (Global Positioning System) trackers are used for monitoring player performances during training sessions and matches. Key metrics which the club’s technical staff will be evaluating include distances covered, acceleration, deceleration, speed and power plays.
The club also uses video analysis where coaches and players review game footage to identify areas for improvement, such as tactical insights, player performance review, opposition analysis and feedback for improvement. “Using technology such as GPS devices and video analysis helps to understand and monitor player performance, injury prevention, tactical understanding and to plan strategies”, adds Welvin.
With regards to the club using technology to scout new players, as it currently competes in I-League 2, the transfer market is used to scout potential players
“Once we qualify for I-League and ISL, we plan to use platforms like Hudl, Wyscout and Instat”, says Welvin. “Also sourcing video footage of different teams to analyze player performances such as progressive passes, dribbles completed and defensive duels to name a few,’ He notes explaining how the advanced scouting tools will allow the club to analyze players’ key metrics.
Sporting Clube de Goa’ key aim is to create a strong club culture with its philosophy and values to compete at the highest level in India with the club’s current focus on youth development to produce home-grown players which was its forte pre-pandemic. The club aims to revive this culture back and feature again on the drawing board.
The club also focuses to build a strong youth to first team transition program, offering clear pathways for young players to progress to the senior squad. Moreover, the club is committed to holistic player development, club Identity, playing style and a strong scouting network fostering both technical and mental skills to prepare players for professional football.
Welvin concludes “Looking ahead, Sporting Clube de Goa has a vision to establish its own academy infrastructure, training facilities, collaborations and sponsorships, together with a robust community engagement plan.
By embracing technology, improving youth development, and focusing on creating a strong club culture, Sporting Clube de Goa is laying the foundation for long-term success with a goal to build a club that not only competes at the highest levels in India but also leaves a lasting legacy.
