Sporting Clube de Goa continued their fine run in the Goa Professional League, clinching their third consecutive win with a 2-1 win over FC Goa at Duler Stadium on Thursday. A decisive second-half strike from substitute Doyal Alves sealed the win, after Selwyn Miranda had earlier cancelled out FC Goa’s early lead.
FC Goa opened the scoring in just the third minute when Lemmet Tangvah took advantage of a rare defensive lapse from Sporting, executing a clever Panenka over goalkeeper Abhimanyu Singh. However, Sporting Clube regrouped and mounted sustained pressure, with their efforts paying off right before halftime. Vikram Venktachalam’s precise pass found Selwyn Miranda, who calmly slotted the ball home to level the score.
The second half saw Sporting raise their game, showing tactical maturity and resilience. After coming close to taking the lead several times, the breakthrough came when Alves latched onto a long ball from goalkeeper Singh, outrunning the FC Goa defense to slot the winner into an empty net.
With this result, Sporting Clube de Goa solidified their place at the top of the standings, showcasing their intent to reclaim the Goa Pro League title. Head coach Armando Colaco praised his team’s determination and focus, saying, “The boys showed great character today. We’re on a winning run, and we plan to keep the momentum going.”
Sporting Clube’s next challenge awaits as they prepare to maintain their perfect start to the season.
